P3D 5.2 with Windows 11

Post by robpol471 »

Late last night I finished installing Windows 11 and this morning, after my usual "streamlining" of Windows with disables in services.msc to optimize it and installing the Nvidia 472.12 Game Ready driver for Windows 11, I did a couple of flights with QW 787 and, of course, confirmations will be needed, but what I notice is a about 5/10 fps improvement over Windows 10.

5/10 fps improvement relative to what? 20, 30, 40? Can you give it as a percentage of what you normally see?

Thanks,
Pete

Hi Pete,

With my my Pc with a CPU I9-9900k 5 GHz - GPU RTX 3080 Ti 12 Gb - Asus Prime 390 - RAM 32 Gb 4000 Mhz - 2 x Samsung 980 PRO 1T -
Power 850 W gold - liquid CPU cooler - Sony 42 " 4k display using QW 787 in Windows 10, fps ranged from a minimum of 30/35 to a maximum
of 45/50 obviously depending on the scenario and weather conditions while with Windows 11 assuming that, as I wrote in my post, I only
made 2 short flights (LIMC - LIRF and LIRF - LSZH) but, for example, I have positioned myself back to LIMC runway 17R and while with W10
I remember well that the fps were around 37/39 now with W11 it is 44/46 as you can see from this screenshot:

Flying at 28000 feet, I hit 60fps never achieved with W10 but again, it will take a lot of flights to determine for sure the confirmation, obviously for me, that W11 improves fps compared to W10.

Best regards,

Roberto.

So about 18% improvement. That's well worthwhile -- providing W11 doesn't introduce any new problems.

Thanks,
Pete

Hi Pete,

In the meantime I have made other flights and the last one a while ago was KSAN - KSFO and I confirm what I wrote about improving the fps
compared to W10 but I reiterate that obviously it is my case with my configuration of both P3D and W11 which I made similar to that of W10
but only with other installations of W11 we will see if the improvement of the fps is general or mine is just a case.

As for W11, I think it needs an update because some "stability" problems exist since, not in any flight made, but surfing the internet I found some browser crashes and a W11 reload after a black screen, with an error warning not specified.

Best regards,

Roberto

I'm not rushing to update to W11. I'll give it time for the main bugs to be ironed out :-)

I am in no rush either.

At present, it looks that I cannot use Win 11 because I have an i7-7700K CPU - and that is a load of bovine digestion by-product.

Bye, Bye ... Windows 11!

Unfortunately Windows 11 lasted me ... two days because after a start where everything seemed normal, in addition to disappearing all the icons from the taskbar, the cursor moved but clicking on anything nothing happened.

I restarted the PC but the screen remained desolately dark and no attempt to restore worked and "thanking" ... Microsoft, I had to reinstall everything even though I did it quickly because having so much faith in ... Microsoft, I had created a clone of the M2 SSD, before installing W11.

You previously mentioned:

Good to hear there were no problems with P3D or your Add-ons with WIN11.

Did you notify MS about the "stability" problems ?

I had installed Windows 11 but after a few flights the problems started with the disappearance of the icons on the toolbar and the crash of W11.

After the release of the latest Windows 11 update (KB5006746) which fixes several problems such as the disappearance of the icons on the toolbar, I reinstalled W11 and it looked all O.K but a check made after installation with SFC /SCANNOW I received the report that there were damaged files
and not restorable.

After performing the DISM procedure, SFC /SCANNOW reported "no integrity violation found ".

I have made about ten flights and so far I have not encountered any problems.

Is Win 11 upgrade still a free (no cost $$) upgrade?

Yes it's still free if your system is compatible. I question whether it's an 'upgrade' though. Interesting about the FPS increase, but that could just be from a clean graphics card install, and I guess it depends on whether the OP copied the graphics settings config exactly.

I recently re-installed a graphics driver cleanly after not-so-clean install after getting massive problems with frame rates and the frame rate halving every time I added a window, so it's possible that a clean driver install was responsible rather than the OS.
