CHG90 Monitor + GTX1070 - Best Upgrade will bee...

Hello,

It is difficult to ask this question even on expert forums around, believe me, if you dont know about flight simulation, the language is short in order to explain ag get advices...lol

Okay, this is it: I recently upgraded my monitor to the Samsung CHG90 49 inches, bought a bigger SSD 970 EVO 1TB and was happy to try the P3DV4 with this new toys and current system:

6700k CPU OC 4.5
MSI 1070GTX Gaming X Vcard
Memory Trident Z 2x16GB F4-3200C14D-32GTZ

BUT(like a loud - BUT!!!!) the real thing was a very marginal performance on the sim 30-40FPS, sometimes down to 25fps depending on scenery and aircraft selected, so after tweaking and trying stuff around i think is not a bad idea to try hardware upgrade, may be it worth it for better. Believe me, when using my old 29 inches monitor, i got around 60-100 FPS(Neeeeeever in the life 30).

Two options:

1) Change the videocard only and buy 1080 ti Asus Strix = USD$830

2) Change CPU and Mobo only and buy 8700 k + Maximus Hero Mobo = USD$614 (might be less)

Note: Not sure if i have to upgrade memory too...Mobo specs indicates that Trident Z F4-3200C14D-32GTZ is compatible, so it is with the CPU i guess...
.
.

Is the upgrade worth it?

Thanks in advance...

Third option: Set your frame rate lock to 24 fps. I have gone through several builds since I started using P3D (4790K, 6700K and now 8700K) and I've gone from a 750Ti to currently using 2x 1080Ti in SLI mode. Each step up in hardware is an incremental improvement and it's hard to quantify the results. You will see a qualitative difference if you went to an 8700K but if you have a tight budget I'm not sure the difference would be worth the scarce money.

Also, it is very important to not use frame rate as the primary measurement of quality. Frame rate only matters when it becomes too low. One way to prevent it from being too low is to give the processing ample time to do each frame, by locking to 20, 24, or even 26 you will reduce the number of hits you get with low frame rates. 24 fps on my 42-in 4K display looks very fluid and of course the SLI is there to help out when the going gets tough but that extra power is only used on occasion.

Thank you Dan, it is interesting the lock FPS option, i will be testing that during the weekend.

I think that increasing to 8700K will give me new capabilities with my actual 1070 at the lowest cost... but im tempted to look for a new start... It looks excellent on the CHG 90...pretty mutch better than any other ive tested.... Not 4K like yours, but trust me, this immersion without vessels is magic! That is why im trying to push up.

In the other hand, i heard that new Vcards are about to be released. So, someone adviced to wait, dont upgrade yet and may be be able to buy best card/CPU combination in about 1 year form now.... May be new CPU... So that is why i dont want to spend too mutch.... since new vcard horizon is here, i dont really want to invest something that i might regret later...

There is always something new just around the corner, the next big thing but it usually turns out to be just an incremental step. Been this way since computing began using machines instead of people. One great thing about a new top of the line item is the former top of the line becomes cheaper but it hasn't lost any performance.

I understand....

I bet i could get that 1080Ti in the future at a cheaper price (for instance, the 1080Ti Asus Strix went from 1000 to 800 USD in the past week). So definitely worth waiting a bit and may be id try an SLI config... :-)

Another thing, usefull for anyone who owns the beast: I lowered the resolution from 3840x1080 to the more convenient 1920x1080. My frames went up to 100FPS again....

So may be i will wait a little longer and see what happens with the just announced Radeon™ Pro WX 8200. I feel like tempted to try the FreeSync and other advantages with my monitor...
