i5-9600k for P3Dv5 with addons

Post by Oracle »

Im planning on building a PC for P3Dv5. The addons that I will use are things such as the FSLabs, ORBX, Active Sky, aerosoft Heathrow and other heavy addons.
Will an i5-9600k and an RTX 2070Super be good enough for all of this with good FPS?

Here is a link to the list: (It is constantly changing)

Any replies are much appreciated!

Thanks!

Just want to say as well, im torn between saving a small bit more for the i7-9700k or going for an i5-9600k. Cooler suggestions would be great too!

Don't know about the RTX, but I use an i5-6600k and it works fine. I have AS, ORBX, PMDG 747, etc. No problems in the usual sense.

@Oracle,

This CPU/GPU combination will run P3D v. 5 with those add-ons, but make sure that every single add-on expressly is compatible with v. 5.

As for the frame rate, all depends on how you set your sliders or settings. Just remember, your eye cannot see more than 25-30 FPS anyway.

Ah right. Ive looked around for an i7-7700k but Its difficult to find them chips now. I think I will stick with the i5-9600k but if i have enough, I may save a small bit more for the i7. Im just think that the i5 has a higher base clock and can boost as high as the i7-9700k so I may just keep with the i5 and get a good cooler, e.g. h100x

The average population would perceive about 45 frames per second (nice going HFR movies). But on the other hand, you have 25% of the population who will percieve more than 60 frames per second, with extremes going to seeing temporal gaps of up to 2 ms. Which is insane. When I wrote my replies and the first post, I did not know about this research. New conclusion: By far most of the human population (test in USA) will see more than 24 fps, only the extremes will see just the 24 fps or less (we're going towards visualle impaired elderly). More than 50% of the population will benefit greatly from FPS of 45+. Trained fighter pilots can see even more, so training of the brain might just be possible in perceiving a lower threshold of temporal gap.

The big advantage for the i5-9600K is his overclock capabilities. Mine runs rock stable at 5 Ghz. Never ctd.

I never understood the advantage for the i7 while mostly hypertrading will be switched off.

Alright, Thanks for all of the replies so far, its been amazing.

So for a good 30fps (ish) for P3D with addons etc etc..., an i5-9600k is a good enough choice. Getting this would also save me a good £150 on the CPU.

Thanks!
