How is the SDK coming along? I've been dabbling with 3DS Max and P3D object design... I'd love to be able to design my own spacecraft.

SpaceFlightNut
Hi,

It is coming along well, although we are not prioritizing it at this time. Obviously, we first want to release this add-on in it's fully functional state. The SDK will obviously be based on P3D SDK, and will include some 3DS MAX scripts to facilitate design spacecraft-specific systems. These will include location and direction of rocket engines and RCS thrusters, collision shapes, attach points, and so on.

We will also supply a full list of spacecraft-specific variables and a compliable framework on how to access them from the main module, so that the custom instrumentation can be built.

Hi Everyone!

At this moment, NASA is about to roll the Artemis I rocket out of the VAB and onto the Pad 39 launch pad! And as the events are unfolding in real time, we are slightly ahead of NASA's schedule :)

Woooow excellent! Are displays functionals?

Hi Jorge,

Yes, the displays are fully functional! They are similar to Orion's - sharing the same DLL, but can be custom-coded to what the real thing will look like, once we have more info in it.

Hi Everyone!

We put together and published a 10+ minute video of the EVA (extra-vehicular activity). The video shows an astronaut moving about a small space station constructed from the ISS modules, in the 420 km Low Earth Orbit. The video showcases the ease of movement using our new EVA movement controller. The movement is performed using a joystick, and the astronaut is capable of full 6 degrees of freedom (3 axis of attitude and translation). We also vastly improved EVA suit/Astronaut model and added animation "fidgets". Hands are also controlled using joystick buttons, and the user is capable of selecting and using different kinds of tools. This is the part of our "task controller" feature (work in progress), where the user can be instructed to perform tasks in order to accomplish a goal (replace a faulty part, for example).

Such great news to see this jewel of a project still alive.

I tried running the demo when it first came out and it wouldn’t run properly, so seeing the progress shots is motivating me to try again.

The Dream Chaser project is what I’m most stoked about.

Hi! Yes, it is very much alive! What exactly is the problem with running the demo? We are testing on P3D V4.5, CLEAN (as in, no other add ons). We had reports from users that some add ons (such as TACPACK) prevent SpacePort from running. A simple fix is to disable all of the add ons (through P3D UI) and re-install SpacePort. We will have this option incorporated into the next version of the installer.

Oh - is THAT why it sometimes doesn't load? I have had problems with the demo once in a while, but now that I think about it, I've been using TACPACK on and off. That's great news, I thought it was just buggy!

Yes, unfortunately, some developers don't do any housekeeping and checks for interference with other add-ons. In TACPACK's case, they kill off ANY spawned AI objects at a certain distance, obviously assuming that any objects spawned are "theirs". As it is virtually impossible to prevent other add-ons from doing this unless the actual developers implement it, we are forced to instruct our users to disable all other active add-ons. We will make this an option in the next version of the installer.

Hi Everyone!

Meet Bill and Mike! They are an intrepid duo of spacewalkers that regularly conduct EVAs and perform construction, regular maintenance and the constant upkeep of our orbital outpost! We are hard at work on many new features, such as this "buddy" EVA mode. In this mode, user can go for an EVA and spawn a "buddy" astronaut which will follow him around and provide support during EVA tasks.

Wow, looks spectacular!

How is the work on guidance going? I am interested in how that will pan out...

Hi!

Yes, that is one of the things we are concentrating on right now. It is progressing, not as fast as we thought, as it is quite a bit of a complicated task, as you can imagine. Pure rocket science ;)
